Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy encompasses the understanding of how movement develops, how it relates to the development of gross motor skills and how it impacts functional activities including cognitive development, self-care skills and independent mobility. The benefits of physical therapy in the pediatric population may include increasing and/or maintaining joint range of motion to prevent a variety of musculo-skeletal complications, developing balance reactions for independent sitting, standing and walking, developing coordination for more complex movement and promoting mobility through use of assistive devices. Family education for developmentally appropriate gross motor play is also a vital part of pediatric physical therapy.
